Frozen berries virus testing available at Mérieux NutriSciences
After a Hepatitis A outbreak earlier this year in Australia, history is repeating itself in New Zealand. A few cases of Hepatitis A had been declared and seem to be linked to the consumption of imported frozen berries.
No specific cause has been confirmed yet, but frozen strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and boysenberries might be affected. As a consequence, the government of New Zealand is willing to increase surveillance especially on imported frozen berries.
Mérieux NutriSciences can help food industry players prevent Hepatitis A outbreaks by detecting food borne viruses in food products including fruits, vegetables, shellfish, species & herbs, ready-to-eat products, water and food surfaces. Working in 20 countries, Mérieux NutriSciences also provides cross-border shipment of samples and test between countries.
